When it comes to living in a clean environment, we all have different standards. Some people vacuum daily, and wipe down the oven after each use. Others are less concerned about clean carpets and tend to bundle the chores into a weekly blitz.

Whatever your cleaning routine, it’s important that you have one, and that cleaning is not left undone for too long. Why does cleaning matter so much?

Unwelcome Guests

Even if you don’t have pets, your home is not free from beasties of some kind. Beatles, dust mites and spiders often live happily among us, and if your home is clean, they shouldn’t cause a problem. But if there’s dirt building up, these creatures can get a little to comfortable and start to become more visible and disruptive.

Food waste, skin and organic matter like grass can encourage animal visitors, and any areas that get damp will be subject to mould and spores. For your own health, it’s important to keep the house clean so you can see this kind of problem, and take action quickly.

Wear and Tear

If you neglect cleaning your house, you’ll find it more difficult to catch up. Weekly blitzes are fine, but if you’re not cleaning for several weeks, you’ll have a difficult job keeping up. Not only does this hide wear and tear, it can also cause problems around the home, as debris and muck clogs up the bathroom and kitchen, or causes damage to carpets and lino.

For your own mental health and wellbeing, a tidy home is far more beneficial than a dirty one. We wrote about this recently in our The Domestic Cleaner’s Ultimate Guide to a Tidy Home Coming home to a living room strewn with clutter, toys and stained carpets is always a strain, but walking into a clean, sparkling home is always going to lift your spirits and help you to enjoy your own time much more.

Dirt and Clutter

We’ve all seen TV shows where hoarders end up trapped in their houses under piles of clutter and mess. Left unattended, items build up, and the more clutter you have, the harder it is to keep the house clean.

The first step towards being cleaner is being more organised. Reassess the storage in your home, and make sure every item has a place where it should be kept. If you frequently find that items are being left on countertops, or on tables, this suggests you need a new storage solution.

If you don’t do this, you will find cleaning much more difficult, and this allows dust and dirt to settle. Not only that, it’s more difficult to reach nooks and crannies where bugs, insects and mould can flourish.

Getting Help

If you can’t find the time to do a few cleaning tasks daily, it’s best to invest in a regular cleaning visit from the pros, rather than leaving your home to get worse and worse. There’s no reason to be ashamed if you simply don’t have time to clean; that’s what we’re here to help with.
